Captioning digital media is a necessary step to insure the accessibility of multimedia presentations delivered over the World Wide Web. Participants in this training will have the opportunity to examine the accessibility of different media types (i.e. QuickTime, Media Player, Real, Flash), transcribe a short multimedia clip, synchronize the transcription with the multimedia presentation, and deliver the captioned content via a web page.
Participants will be able to do the following:
- understand differences between digital and analog captioning
- identify limitations to accessibility and usability when using multimedia on the Internet
- transcribe text into an electronic format and import content different captioning applications
- format and synchronize captions to the appropriate time instance of the multimedia presentation
- deliver the content via a web-page that incorporates accessibility and usability principles
- examine various captioning applications, including MAGpie, Macaw, and Hi-Caption
- review the captioning options available in Camtasia Studio and Adobe Captivate
